So today I had a colleague of mine who decided to go back into time and dust up her iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C that runs on iOS 7. Looking at these piece of beauty, I couldn’t help but to wonder and ask myself there was once upon a time when these two smartphones were the latest smartphones in the world. How time flies I concluded, then I decided to lend her a hand to set them up again. One of the first things I did was to set up email and followed by answering her question do archived emails get deleted.
For a minute I thought I’ve lost it all but once I started off by pulling up the Settings menu, then tap on Mail, Contacts & Calendars, and then tap on Add Account the knowledge started coming back to me, thanks to the setup wizard I had it done in a timely fashion. After setting up the mail, I had to familiarize myself with the interface once more, so as the give my troublesome colleague the information she was seeking for.
Do Archived Emails get Deleted?
Most email app would delete a message or mark the messages as done when you swipe left or right. But with iOS 7, Gmail which is the default email app is set to archive your emails upon swipe from right to left.
Archive or More options are what you are likely to get. Archiving email keeps the messages in an Archived folder, but the More option gives you every other option except for deleting the message. However, if you insist on deleting a particular email, tap on the more options and then Move Message, and then choose the Trash folder. This is indeed one of the many reasons I advised her to upgrade to a better iPhone.
Another uncomfortable feature I spotted in the interface was the absence of the deletion button even in the button of messages. There is no delete option rather the available button which is right above the home button is a blue box. which archives the message as in lieu of deleting the message and putting it in Trash.

I remember vividly that delete button was easily found in iOS 6, right under your settings, one an change archiving to delete for Gmail. To get the same thing done in iOS 7, you’d have to force the button out of hiding. It is rather simple though, all you have to is to
✓ Pull up your iPhone’s Settings menu
✓ Tap on Mail, Contacts & Calendars and the list of available mail address will be listed.
✓ Tap on the particular mail account you which to modify
✓ Scroll down to the bottom and tap on Advanced
✓ Find where it says “Move Discarded Messages Into:” and select “Deleted Mailbox”
✓ To ensure optimum security, be certain that “SSL is enabled” before closing up everything.
And that’s all about how to easily delete, not archive, your Gmail messages in Mail for iPhone devices running on iOS 7.
Now that I’ve turned on Delete email in Gmail for iOS 7, whenever I go to a message body a message I will now have that option to delete the message and put it in the trash. So I am guessing that your question do archived emails get deleted has been answered…
